Research Lifecycle Support

OVPR is structured to support faculty across every stage of the research lifecycle: from idea generation and funding strategy to compliance, post-award management, and technology transfer. Whether you are submitting your first proposal, navigating regulatory requirements, managing a complex grant, or exploring commercialization pathways, OVPR’s specialized offices and teams are here to provide expert guidance, resources, and personalized support. Our goal is to make it easier for you to focus on what matters most: advancing knowledge and making an impact.

Research Development

Reporting to the Office of the Vice President for Research, the Office of Research Development (ORD) strengthens Temple University’s research enterprise by providing faculty and researchers with strategic resources to advance their scholarly work.

ORD offers grantsmanship training, expert proposal review, and strategic consultation while facilitating interdisciplinary collaborations and identifying funding opportunities. ORD manages internal funding programs, coordinates limited submissions, and assists in developing large-scale, multidisciplinary proposals. Additionally, ORD fosters external partnerships with federal agencies, industry, and nonprofits, promotes faculty recognition, and facilitates engagement with research sponsors.

Through these initiatives, ORD advances research excellence and enhances faculty success in securing competitive funding.

Research Administration

Reporting to the Office of the Vice President for Research, the Office of Research Administration (ORA) provides comprehensive full life cycle administrative and financial support for all of Temple University’s externally sponsored research activities. ORA manages all pre- and post-award processes for grants, contracts, and cooperative agreements, ensuring compliance with institutional goals, policies, and procedures.

ORA works closely with faculty and research teams to provide timely and clear communication, build partnerships with external sponsors, and deliver expert stewardship throughout the duration of sponsored projects. By offering knowledge-based leadership and fostering a collaborative stewardship model, ORA aims to deliver exceptional service, expertise, and education to support sponsored research across the university.

Research Compliance

Reporting to the Office of the Vice President for Research, the Office of Research Compliance (ORC) upholds Temple University’s commitment to ethical and responsible research. ORC provides guidance, oversight, and resources to ensure compliance with federal, state, and institutional regulations. It facilitates adherence to policies on human subject research, animal care and use, biosafety, conflict of interest disclosures and management, export controls, and research integrity.

ORC also supports the “I-Committees”: Institutional Review Board (IRB), the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), and the Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC). Through education, training, and compliance monitoring, ORC fosters a culture of integrity and accountability in research.
