The Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) is appointed by the Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR) to ensure oversight by facilitating review of research involving recombinant DNA (rDNA) and synthetic nucleic acid molecules, infectious agents and other hazardous biological agents being conducted at, or sponsored by, Temple University.
Since Temple University receives funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) for rDNA/synthetic nucleic acid research, we are required to establish and register an Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) with the NIH Office of Science Policy (OSP) in assurance with the NIH Guidelines for Research involving rDNA/synthetic nucleic acid and meet other applicable regulations and standards.
OVPR is responsible for ensuring that the policies and directives of the IBC are enforced.
